Your Feet Must Support You Forever - Avoid Ankle Tendonitis

by Jack Beartoes

Your feet are going to carry you for probably your entire life. You need to make sure that you take care of them the best that you can. You may be starting ankle tendonitis if you start to feel pain or either swelling in the ankle area.

We will talk about what you can do to help prevent tendinitis in ankle and some background information.

Runners and joggers can get into a training mode that can be sometimes hard on their ankles. This also can happen to people who have jobs that required them being on their feet constantly. What can happen is that you may start to develop tendonitis in your ankles.

Lets talk just a minute about what tendonitis is. What you are going to find it is basically the inflammation of the tendon. The tendon actually connects the bone to the muscle. This connectivity is extremely important as you might imagine. Tendonitis can be developed from the tendon being in an overworked situation or possibly too much force being applied.

If you have developed ankle tendonitis you are going to find it difficult to move the ankle without feeling a very sharp pain starting in the ankle area and working its way up to the calf. Most times the common symptoms that you will have will be pain, swelling and tenderness to the touch in the area of the ankle.

Achilles tendonitis is very similar to ankle tendonitis in the fact that they are both in the foot area and around the ankle. What is going to happen is the Achilles tendon is going to become inflamed. Most of the time this will happen if you are a runner or if your job requires you to be on your feet constantly.

A way to treat Ankle Tendonitis

The home remedy for tendonitis is the care. If you are experiencing a mild case of ankle tendonitis, ice packs will work great. Use the ice in 15 minute intervals. If you need to be on your feet, you can wrap the ankle for support and this will prevent further injury.

A cortisone injection helps tendonitis pain and is a good remedy. Doctors don't like to inject cortisone in the foot area. The ankle tendon is easy to rupture with an injection of cortisone. You may also find relief from ankle tendonitis is by putting a cushion in the shoe. This will help support the foot and help keep you pain free during activity.

Your feet are going to carry you for a long time and keeping them injury free is important. This will include not getting ankle tendonitis. If you avoid taking care of the problem, you risk developing permanent injury and that is not something you want to do.

You need to talk to a physical therapist or an orthopedic doctor to learn how to maneuver your feet during physical activity to prevent injury. Whenever you feel ankle tendonitis pain or swelling in your ankle, try not to over do it. Try to get off of your feet and give them a rest.
